Attention Dan Lucas...
« on: April 04, 2004, 01:53:46 PM »
Dan, if you or Mike if you might be looking in, could you - or would you comment on what you may know about the planned course set-up at Whistling Straits for the PGA.  I will hold off on what I heard, though the gent that was at the Kings Putter that told me the startling rumor may chime in first.  Dan, do you know of anything unusual in terms of course set-up, mowing patterns or such that will shock a few of us?  Perhaps you can't say because you are sworn to secrecy :P ;D ;)

No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.

Isn't Dan Lucas the Supt at Kingsley? Why would he know anything about the set up at Whistling?

Also Kingsley opened this week so Dan probably doesn't have time for e-mail.

Because he did some consulting at Whistling in prep of the big toon-a-mint. 8)  Dan is considered a top fescue man. ;D

Dick,

Mike Lee (Whistling), Troy Russell (Bandon) and I had lunch in San Diego in February. We try to get together whenever we are in the same area. The same was true of our get together last June at Whistling. It was NOT a consulting visit, we just get together to discuss problems and successes and other issues of dealing with fescue. There are so few of us growing fescue that we have to develop our own network of information. Corey from Sand Hills was also involved until he moved into ownership of his own course. I have not yet met the current Super there.

I was happy to hear from Mike that their spring overseed last year was very successful and the FW's were in great shape last fall. Hopefully they survived the winter well so he has a good starting point this spring.

We did not discuss course setup too much except for all of us hoping that the PGA would let him burn out the FW's the way they should be. Hoping for puffs of dust on every iron shot.

As to course set-up that is all dictated by the PGA, though I would imagine if Mr. Kohler wants something bad enough he has the pull to get it.
