ASilis- I don't recall that about sfgc, Are you sure?

Gookin- I remembered the one at Wilshire CC. Where they hold(or held) the Ralph's Senior Classic. The 12th and 15th share a teeing ground. The course gets a lot of play (being in the gca wasteland of L.A.) and the feature really adds to the intimacy of the round, especially whe one group runs into another at this point.

I would say that in our dis-connected abreviated curt world we live in, forcing memebers to show some real courtesy, isn't a bad thing.

Burlingame CC actually has two shared tees - #7 & #9, #6 & #17.
Sequoyah CC has one - #4 & #18.

Kinda fun if done right.

At Scioto in Ohio the 1st and 10th tees are connected by a putting/chipping green.  Vert cool and awesome design.  The short grass of the tee goes right to the fringe of the green.  Great way to pass the time while waiting to tee off.

Ky,
Yes that is a very cool complex.  At a renovation we're currently working on we've combined the 9th green, putting green and will have fairway mowed up to the first tee.  A blend of Scioto and Oakmont.

Gookin,
It sounds like a good idea.  Post a few pictures and an aerial and I'll touch them up for you.  And you might even get a few others to help do the same.  It makes a big difference at a presentaion.  Don't forget to get a few constituents prior to the meeting.

Cheers

The 11th &16th at Broken Top in central Oregon share back tees on top of a lava outcrop, and run in opposite directions.

Cost some players 2 stroke penalties for some cart riding players playing the 11th. They drove to the top and teed off from the 16th tee blocks. They missed seeing the 11th teeing ground, on a lower level, which was on the normal walking path.

The 1st and 5th holes share a tee box at Lansing (MI) Country Club.  The tee box is L-shaped and is nestled close to the clubhouse.  A very cool way to start a round... just steps away from the back door.

Saucon Valley Country Club Old Course no. 17 (Willows) and Grace Course no. 5 (Eden).

Also, in the old days, Old Course no.18 back tee shared no.16's middle tee when it played in the 370 yard range.

Just thought of another...

Silver Creek Country Club (formerly the Steel Club) in Hellertown, PA, no.1 on the 18 hole course and no.1 on the Hill Nine course.  The no.1 hole is the no.1 stroke hole on the entire course--a great opener.

Silver Creek is a Ross course.  The club was built by Bethlehem Steel as a country club for the middle manager set.  In the 1980s, Steel sold the course and it then became an equity club.

THE Redan at North Berwick (#14) shares it's tee box with #6.

The all time great, however, must be at Painswick where the 4th and 13th share a narrow teeing area where the holes are playing in completely opposite directions.  A shot from the back tees on 4 must be hit straight over the back tees of 13 and vice versa.  And SFGC thinks IT has a "Duel" hole......... :o

Olympic Cliffs course has a shared tee box and shared green but not together ...

The aforementioned Coto de Caza North has a shared tee box ... with cart paths coming and going in 6 or so different directions ...

The Tuxedo Club in Tuxedo Park, NY has a shared tee on #11 and #16.  The tee is unique as it is connected, but the two parts are somewhat divided by a large tree.

Gerry - A common trick to play on the unwary and uninitiated is to send the caddy ahead to 15 tee, and direct the tee markers so that they point directly at 16 green, 275+ yards across the pond. Somebody usually makes a little joke, "yup, just another little par 3." Then after the guest pumps a couple into the pond will let them in on the ruse.

A player with whom I am familiar was a steady 6 over through 13 on his first trip to Clementon. He took a big number on 14, and to add insult to injury was made the mark of this particular joke. After the jig was up, he could do no better than bogey on the remaining 4 holes.

Schmitty the caddie - the poet laureate of Pine Valley (for those in the know) would never have played that cruel joke on me  - but come to think of it in hindsight -it was mentioned the first time i played the course. I had a good round going - i suppose the rest of my group did not want to ruin my finish by playing a cruel joke at my expense and risk finding me hanging in the locker room from one of the heated towels after the round(lol)

I like that idea at GMGC.But when have there been two groups on the course at the same time since Rolling Green  stopped taking advantage of your hospitality?
   That course gets no play.
