How old is that picture?  I don't remember many of those trees from the Open last year (at least those on the right side of the fairway) , but I might be wrong.

#11 is not very tight--great hole requiring a 3-wood to a 3 iron off the tee.

Prior to the tree removal it was a VERY tight, maybe even ridiculously tight course.

Tree plan was a fantastic success and the course was greatly improved.  There are some tight holes (I think they are tight)--#2, #8, #9, #15, #16, #17, #18

# 11 has always been a short, rather narrow hole.
The topography is quite unusual and adds to the difficulty of the hole.  It plays as a mild dogleg.

As with most golf courses that host U.S. Opens fairways get narrowed and rarely returned to their pre-tournament or original width.

With today's modern players, some hit irons off the tee, including amateurs.

It's an interesting hole and not a back breaker like so many other holes.

The finish from # 14 thru # 18 is brutal.
